Wikid Lasagne

Why not get creative in the kitchen with Wikinger Hot Dogs? Via this blog, we're going to bring you a series of easy, tasty and sometimes familiar recipes - but with with a Wikinger twist! Here's a hearty lasagne to inspire you and get you started...

Ingredients

• 6 Wikinger hot dogs
• 2 tins of tomatoes
• 50g mushrooms
• 1 chopped onion
• 1 garlic clove
• 25g butter
• 340g lasagne sheets

White sauce

• 150ml milk
• 15g butter
• 15g plain flour
• 30g grated cheddar

Method

• Cut sausages into 1 cm pieces
• Slice onion and Mushrooms and finely chop garlic
• Fry sausages until brown
• Add garlic, tomatoes and sliced mushrooms
• Cook for about 30 minutes until rich and thick
• Grease an oven proof dish

Sauce

• Melt butter in a saucepan, stir in flour and add milk
• When thick add grated cheese
• Add salt and pepper to taste
• Layer the ingredients repeatedly
• Starting with the meat sauce
• Then the lasagne sheets
• Ending with the bechamel sauce
• Sprinkle with parmesan cheese
• Bake in the oven at 200 degrees C for about 45 minutes
• Serve with parmesan cheese

Derrick's Wikle idea...

There's some kids that live on my street. Alix who's 8, Josh, Mikey, Amie, Harriet, Will and Izi, who's the youngest at 2. According to them I make and sell the best hot dogs in the world. Who am I to argue? Anyway, they are my regular tasting panel for new products.

The Wikle idea came out of a conversation with Will who was having his birthday. He asked his mum Lisa to ask me if I had some of those special mini hot dogs and hot dog balls for his party. I gave Lisa my last two jars. She said that if she didn't have enough that she would buy some more, to which I said that she couldn't yet buy them in the UK. Then came my light bulb moment!

From that discussion we went back to the factory and decided on the range that we would launch in the UK. iMdA came up with the design and Wikle branding for the new range of mini hot dogs and hot dog balls soon to be launched.

So thanks to Will and his mum Lisa, as well as the panel of judges who live beside me, we have what I believe is a real alternative to canned hot dogs for kids. I'm hoping that Wikle things will turn into whopping things.

And I still have the best job in the world.
