A World of Hot Dogs

Hot Dogs in Denmark
The traditional Danish Hot Dog is always steamed. The bread is heated in an oven or toaster. The Hot Dog is usually served with ketchup, mustard and the typical Danish remolade sauce. On top: raw and/or roasted onions & sweet-sour marinated gherkin slices. Danes often enjoy a chocolate milk with their Hot Dog

Hot Dogs in England
The English Hot Dogs is served in a Hot Dog bun. Typically it is served with fried onion, sliced pickles, ketchup and sweet mustard

Hot Dogs in France
In France the Hot Dog is placed in an impaled baguette. The French Hot Dog is often served with grilled gruyčre cheese on top

Hot Dogs in Germany
The German Hot Dog is often served with the bread on the side. You get a sausage with mustard and ketchup. On the side you eat a slice of bread or a bun which you dip in mustard and ketchup. Germans, however, prefer their "Bratwurst" (fried sausage) or Currywurst a sliced sausage that comes in a sauce based on ketchup or tomato puree with curry powder

Hot Dogs in Austria
The Austrian Hot Dog is served in a baguette bread (like in France, without the cheese). Usually most of a vendor's offering can be ordered as a hot dog

Hot Dogs in the USA
The American Hot Dog is served with a special type of sliced pickles and relishes (sweet, hot pepper or corn). Furthermore it is served with mustard or yellow mustard (very popular!), but not that often with ketchup. In New York, you can even find Hot Dogs with warm sauerkraut

Hot Dogs in Italy
The Italian Hot Dog is served cut in half lengthwise on a panino with lettuce and mustard

Hot Dogs in the Czech Republic
The Czech Hot Dog is steamed, dipped into ketchup or mustard and then put into a hole in the bun which doesn't go completely through. This leaves no space for other condiments

Hot Dogs in Sweden
The Swedish Hot Dog is a long narrow sausage served on a very small split roll with the sausage protruding from both sides. More popular is the "Tunnbröd rulle": a hot dog wrapped in a tortilla like flatbread and stuffed with many different ingredients like e.g. mashed potatoes
